Columbus day

Columbus Day

Christopher Columbus was an italian explorer, navigator, colonizer, and the citizen of the Republic of Genoa. He made four trips in 1492, 1493, 1498, and 1502. Though he didn’t discover the “new world,” his journeys marked the beginning of centuries of transAtlantic conquest and civilization.

Columbus day is a holiday where we celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus arrival in and the discovery of the american continent on October 10, 1492. The united states celebrates it as “Dia de la Raza.” (Day of the Race). This holiday is to honor Christopher's achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage.

Reflection: My thoughts on Columbus day is that it’s nice that they named a day after Christopher even though he didn’t discover something new. He still brought back what he found out and discovered while on his voyage.
